This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, in 1810. This specimen was lot 3507 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $4,025. The catalog description[1] noted, "1810 JP 8 escudos. Lima mint. MS-61 (NGC). Uniformed bust of Fernando VII to right, legends around, date below/crowned arms, legends around. Bright yellow gold with strong lustre and considerable reflectivity in the fields. Minor adjustment marks, some scattered planchet flaws and trivial hairlines. An attractive and very desirable example of this brief imaginary bust type. From B. Max Mehl's sale of the Waltman, Roe, and Ryan collections, June 1945, Lot 2172."

This type was struck 1808-11 only and is very rare. The SCWC prices this type higher than any other 8 escudos struck after 1772.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 27.02 grams, 37.10 mm diameter.
