This specimen is one of a type struck in Lima, Peru, 1809-11. An imaginary bust of Fernando VII was used as the king was languishing in a French prison and not available to have his portrait taken. The "standard bust" was adopted in 1811 and used until 1824, and is considerably more common than this issue.

Recorded mintage: 4,380,000.
