This specimen was lot 1094 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,571 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Kaiserreich Oldenburg, Grossherzogtum Friedrich August, 1900-1918. 5 Mark 1901, Berlin. Selten. FDC aus Polierter Platte. (Grand duchy of Oldenburg, Frederick Augustus, 1900-18, five mark of 1901, Berlin mint. Rare, proof.)"
This issue, the first thaler for this locale since 1864, is rare in proof and uncirculated.
Recorded mintage: 10,000 plus 170 proofs.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
