Sincona sale 47, lot 1673

This specimen was lot 1673 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,800 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH, Konigreich, Louis XV. 1715-1774. Ecu de France 1723, Aix. Réformation. Sehr schön. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, écu of France of 1723, Aix mint, reformed. Very fine.)"

A écu au grand écusson de France of the Aix mint, struck while Louis XV was a minor. Droulers[2] notes the type as rather scarce but more available than the succeeding écu aux 8 L of 1724-25. The type was issued 1720-24.

Recorded mintage: unknown but all reformed, a scarce date.

Specification: 24.47 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 24.41 g.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 817, Duplessy 1665A; Ciani 2107; KM 459.20, Dr/2 № 566, Gadoury 319. Dav-1328.
