Anhalt 1901-A 20 mark

Sincona sale 39, lot 3347

This specimen was lot 3347 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Anhalt, Herzogtum, Friedrich I. 1871-1904 20 Mark 1901 A. Berlin. Selten. Vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt, Frederick I, 1871-1904, twenty mark of 1901, Berlin mint. Rare. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1901 only and is rare. It is listed in the SCWC under "Anhalt-Dessau" but as the other branches of Anhalt, Anhalt-Bernberg and Anhalt-Cothen, had gone extinct by 1863, the title on the coin is simply "HERZOG V. ANHALT." This coin is the second gold issue of this ruler, who also emitted two, three and five mark coins in silver. All are products of the Berlin mint.

Recorded mintage: 15,000 plus 200 proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge, this specimen 7.95 g.
