Sincona sale 98, lot 4268

This specimen was lot 4268 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$870 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 6 Quarts 1763, Genf. Silberabschlag. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, six quarts of 1763, Geneva mint, struck in silver. Very rare, Extremely Fine, Nicely toned.)"

This type was struck 1722, 1750, 1763, 1766, 1766, 1775-76 and is common. The SCWC and Numista erroneously state that these bear a "G" mintmark. Silver strikes exist, made for presentation. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 1.16 g, billon, 18 mm diameter, this specimen silver, 1.67 g.

Catalog reference: KM 67 (billon), KM 67a (silver), Demole 269, D.T. 1016c Anm. Richter (Proben) 1-348, HMZ 2-348c Anm.
