from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 40175

This specimen was lot 40175 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 2 Escudos, 1777-SF. Popayan Mint. Charles III (1759-88). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details Gold Shield. High grade, but bright and a bit granular. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Purchased in Cincinnati, August 1980." This type was struck at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán 1772-84 and is probably the most common two escudos of colonial Latin America.
