The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Austria, 1974-2001. It replaced a similar coin (KM 2882) struck in billon 1957-73. This date is common. Austria began minting euros in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete. The obverse features a woman wearing the traditional bonnet of the Wachau valley. In 1982, US$1 = 16.7 schilling.
Recorded mintage: 4,950,000 + 50,000 proofs.
Specification: 6.2 g, copper-nickel plated nickel, 26 mm diameter.
