Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection, lot 1068
SB924-1068r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1068 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €8,400 (about US$9,309 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Extremely Rare Mint State and Alluring Ducat, DENMARK. Ducat, 1657. Copenhagen Mint; Privy Mark: Poker. Frederik III. NGC MS-61. Mintmaster: Henrik Köhler. Engraver: Matthias Först. EXTREMELY RARE and of unconditionally superior condition, the surfaces glow with a bright luster and sheen and shimmer in the light. No circulation or handling is seen, and much allure and charm is yet present throughout."

Friedberg lumps this ducat with the issue of 1653 as Fr-101 but the bust and the position of the date are different. Both are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.979 fine gold, this specimen 3.50 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-101; KM-215; Hede-14; Sieg-115; Schou-6; Aagaard-21.1; Bruun-6221.
