This specimen was lot 20141 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Francs, 1831-B. Rouen Mint. Louis Philippe I. NGC MS-63. Incuse edge lettering variety. Tied for second finest certified of the date with two other example on the NGC population report, only one finer (MS 64). This boldly struck attractive examples boasts lustrous surfaces with a nice cartwheel effect and frosty devices displaying a hint of champagne tone offering a pleasing appearance certain to catch the attention of discerning collectors." In addition to the Tiolier bust shown here, the Rouen mint struck five francs using the later Domard bust (F.320/2) with raised edge lettering.
Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM.
