Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42131

This specimen was lot 42131 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Danish India. Tranquebar. Cash, ND (1653). Frederick III. PCGS AU-50." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This lead cash was struck in over forty varieties during the reign of Frederick III (ruled 1648-70). The obverse shows the royal monogram while the reverse shows a nettle leaf.
