Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42127

This specimen was lot 42127 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Danish India. Tranquebar. Cash, 1652. Frederick III. PCGS AU-50." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This lead cash was struck in over forty varieties during the reign of Frederick III (ruled 1648-70). The obverse shows the royal monogram while the reverse reads, "DB 1652".
