Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42125

This specimen was lot 42125 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Danish India. Tranquebar. Cash, 1650. Frederick III. PCGS EF-45." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This lead cash was struck in over forty varieties during the reign of Frederick III (ruled 1648-70). This type bears the monogram of his predecessor Christian IV.
