Stephen Album sale 50, lot 659

This specimen was lot 659 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: Frederik IV, 1699-1730, AE 10 kas, ND, crowned double F4 monogram entwined // crowned DOC monogram, denomination below ("10 kass"), some environmental damage, but still a nice example of this very rare type, VF, RRR, ex Brunn Auction 901, lot 1315, ex Solar Collection." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This seems to be the only issue of this denomination during the reign of Frederik IV. The SCWC states that this is a posthumous issue, struck after 1700, but the king lived until 1730.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10 g, copper, this specimen 9.46 g.

Catalog reference: KM-127, Gray-114, Jensen-203.
