This specimen was lot 2767 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $114. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: Frederick IV, 1699-1730, AE kas, ND, crowned F4 with two vertical stems // crowned DOC monogram, well-centered; lovely strike, choice VF, ex Solar Collection." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This copper cash was struck in many varieties during the reign of Frederik IV (died 1730). It replaced the lead cash around 1689-91, being more durable and less poisonous.
