This specimen was lot 688 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN: Reza Shah, 1925-1941, AR 2000 dinars, SH1305, a wonderful example, PCGS graded MS64." This denomination was struck SH 1305-1306 for Reza shah, who had recently ousted the Qajars. Among other reforms, the traditional AH calendar, based on lunar months, was dropped in favor of the SH calendar, which matched the Gregorian calendar except that its start date was that of the Hegira. Thus, SH 1305 = 1926 AD.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 9.21 g, 0.900 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-1100.
