The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in France 1999-2006. France began minting euros in 1999. The hexagon on the obverse, also used on the one euro coin, refers to a common nickname for metropolitan France. The two euro was issued only in sets during 2003-2010 but circulation issues have resumed.
Recorded mintage: 171,120,013 plus 35,000 proofs.
Specification: 8.5 g., nickel-Brass center in a copper-nickel ring, 25.75 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 1289, Gad-5.
