SB1122-74609r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74609 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 1/4 Taler, 1618. Zellerfeld or Goslar Mint. Friedrich Ulrich. PCGS EF-45. Featuring a robustly mustachioed wildman, this gunmetal gray issue offers some cobalt, magenta, and golden hues glistening about the devices and peripheries. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This quarter thaler was struck 1614-29 and despite the many years of production, is rather scarce. A half thaler (KM 51) also exists.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-50; Welter-1068.
