Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 982

This specimen was lot 982 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €360 (about US$468 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, De Staten in opstand (1577-1584), AR halve Statendaalder, 1578, Brugge. Vz/ Gekroond bb. van Philips II v.v., met scepter en wapenschild voor zich houdend. Kz/ Kruis gevormd door de letters P-H onder kronen. Waarde in het veld. Barst in de muntplaat. Mooie patina. Prachtig. (county of Flanders, States Revolt, 1577-84, silver half States dollar of 1578, Bruges mint. Obverse: crowned half-length bust of Philip II holding a scepter and supporting a shield; reverse: cross formed of the letters "P-H" under crowns, an "S" in the center. Planchet crack, nice patina, Extremely Fine.)"
