This specimen was lot 20609 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it sold for $1,265. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Reales, 1830-JM. Ex: Sellchopp collection, Swiss Bank Corporation Auction #20 September 1988, Lot #1056, where it sold for 1,100 Swiss Francs over 20 years ago! Well struck on a large round planchet with broad bold border of denticles. Very nice condition for this issue and the nicest example of this type that was present in the Sellschopp collection. NGC MS-61." The SCWC does not list this as a rare date but mentions the 1831-L JM as rare. We will let the reader decide. This type was struck at Lima 1828-40 and is generally common.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
