This specimen was lot 72571 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 1/4 Real, 1818. Nueva Guatemala Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. A great near Mint example of this charming minor, offering deep cabinet toning and some alluring golden hints around the devices." This specimen is one of a series struck 1808-1821 at Guatemala during the reign of Ferdinand VII (1808-33). The type is not rare but nice specimens always bring a premium.
