This specimen was lot 51211 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 1/4 Real, 1802-L. Lima Mint. Charles IV. NGC VF Details--Environmental Damage. Deeply toned throughout with some roughness but undeniable charm. From the EMO Collection. Ex: Sedwick Auction 6 (10/2009), Lot # 1553 (with ticket)." Two types of cuartillas were struck at the beginning of the series: KM 99 (portrait type) struck 1792-96 and KM 102.1 (lions/castles without value) struck 1794-96. Both are scarce compared to the regular lions and castles type struck 1796-1821, of which an example is shown here.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.84 g, 0.896 fine silver.
