Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24345
SB121-24345r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24345 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. 1/2 Cent, 1851. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: sword. William III. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown Gold Shield. Though exhibiting mostly brown surfaces, this shimmering near-Gem also offers some hints of lustrous red throughout as well." Altho the SCWC divides Dutch half cents into three types (KM 51 for 1818-37, KM 68 for 1841-47, KM 90 for 1850-77), they are, in fact, indistinguishable except by date. This is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 2,051,400.

Specification: 1.92 g, copper, 16 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-90, Sch-704.
