Künker sale 354, lot 6542

This specimen was lot 6542 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €480 (about US$668 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, SACHSEN, Friedrich August III. 1904-1918. 10 Mark 1909. Vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, 1904-18, ten mark of 1909. Extremely fine.)"

This type was minted 1905-12 in respectable numbers and is priced about fifty percent higher than a common ten mark from Baden or Prussia. The Muldenhutten mint, after striking coins for the Saxon kings, later minted for the Weimar republic, the Nazis and the Communists before closing in 1953.

Recorded mintage: 112,070.

Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold, .115 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 1264, J. 267.
