Sincona sale 85, lot 1290

This specimen was lot 1290 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$242 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Reza Shah, 1304-1320 SH (1925-1941). 1000 Dinars 1305 AH (1926 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Reza Shah legend. NGC MS63. Magnificent condition. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 314."

After Reza Pahlavi overthrew the Qajars and seized the throne for himself, he continued the old denominations for several years, substituting his name and adopting a new dating system. The SH calendar is a solar version of the Hegira calendar which, being lunar based, starts on a different date each year. This type was struck SH 1305-1306.

Recorded mintage: 2,265,000 (including KM 1095).

Specification: 4.60 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 1099.
