G119-2212r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2212 in Goldberg sale 122 (Los Angeles, June 2021), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran. 500 Dinars, AH1334 (1915). Low mintage. NGC graded MS-61." This type, roughly equal to a dime, was struck AH 1331-36, 1339, 1343. The catalog value is not particularly high but it is a seldom seen type. In 1931, as the result of a regime change and a coinage reform, it was superseded by a silver half rial.

Recorded mintage: 65,000.

Specification: 2.30 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-1054.
