Jean Elsen sale 124, lot 853
Belgium J124-853r.jpg

This specimen was lot 853 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €145 (about US$181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold II (1865-1909), AR 1 franc, 1866, Superbe/Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold II (1865-1909), silver one franc of 1866. extremely fine to uncirculated.)

This type was struck 1866-69 and 1881-86 at the Brussels mint. Extremely common in low grade but hard to find nice. The specification matches the French one franc of Napoleon III.

Specification: 5 g, .835 fine silver, .134 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 28.1, Dupriez, 1042.
