Ceylon 1919-B 10 cents

from the Stack's Bowers 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73370

This specimen was lot 73370 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $110. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CEYLON. 10 Cents, 1919-B. Bombay Mint. George V. PCGS MS-65. A boldly struck little Gem with full frosty luster, and a touch of light gray toning." This type was struck 1919-28 and is not rare. It is lower in fineness than the previous type (KM 104) struck until 1917. It was converted to nickel-brass in 1944. Ceylon, famous for tea, attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.

Specification: 1.17 g, 0.550 fine silver, 15.5 mm diameter.
