This specimen was lot 789 in Aureo y Calicó sale 246 (Barcelona, September 2012), where it sold for 270 € (about US$410 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,
"Carlos IV (1788-1808). 1803. Madrid. FA. 2 escudos. MBC+. (Charles IV (1788-1808), two escudos of 1803, Madrid mint, very fine plus.)"
This type was struck 1788-1808 at Madrid and Seville. It is the most common Spanish gold coin of the old (reales/escudos) system.
