This specimen was lot 30631 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 2 Escudos 1804 M-FA/MF MS64 NGC, Madrid mint. A sparkling specimen, this near-Gem presents a few obverse adjustment marks which are typical for the type, and an overstrike of assayer initials that is clearly evident. Highly interesting, this premium example is well-deserving of much attention." This type was struck for Spain 1788-1808 at Madrid and Seville. It is the most common Spanish gold coin of the old (reales/escudos) system. The SCWC gives this overassayer variety a slight premium.
