Steve Album sale 51, lot 2679

This specimen was lot 2679 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AE paisa, Farrukhyab-Hisar, AM1215 (1786), elephant right, F-VF. Accompanied with old collector's holder." This type was struck AM 1215 only but is common. One rupee was 64 paisa. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. Many mints issued these copper paisa in dozens of styles.
