Jean Elsen sale 148, lot 576

This specimen was lot 576 in Jean Elsen sale 148 (Brussels, September 2021), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,685 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Albert et Isabelle (1598-1621), AR demi-florin (10 sols), 1601, Anvers. D/ B. affrontés des archiducs sous une couronne. R/ Croix de Bourgogne sous une couronne. En dessous, X. Rare dans cette qualité. Très Beau à Superbe. Provient de la collection Caballero de las Yndias, vente Aureo & Calico, Barcelone, 3 juin 2009, 912. (duchy of Brabant, Albert and Isabella, 1598-1621, silver half florin or ten sols of 1601, Antwerp mint. Obverse: facing busts of the archdukes under a crown; reverse: Burgundian cross under a crown, an 'X' below. Rare in this quality, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1601-02 at Antwerp (shown here), Brussels and Maastricht. It was part of the coinage reform of Albert and Isabella which attempted to revive the devastated Spanish Netherlands.
