Sincona sale 102, lot 5677

This specimen was lot 5677 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 575 CHF (about US$867 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Zürich. Stadt und Kanton Halbtaler 1745, Zürich. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, half thaler of 1745, Zürich mint. About Uncirculated.)"

This half thaler was struck 1726-68 and is thoroughly mixed with the motto reverse half thalers (KM 145) of the same period. They are about equally common but the city view obtains a premium for the more interesting design.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.5-14 g, silver, 32 mm diameter, this specimen 14.21 g.

Catalog reference: KM 146, D.T. 436q, HMZ 2-1165qq.
