Hamburg 1914-J 2 mark

Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 46693

This specimen was lot 46693 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hamburg. 2 Mark, 1914-J. Hamburg Mint. Free City. PCGS MS-64. From the Ralph Titus World War I Collection." Hamburg, on the North Sea, was one of two imperial free cities permitted a continued existence under the Empire of 1871; Bremen was the other. This type is common and was struck 1892-93, 1896-1914. The Hamburg mint is still in operation, striking coins for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Recorded mintage: 327,758 plus a few proofs.

Specifications: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.
