Baden 1914-G 20 mark

Sincona sale 46, lot 254

This specimen was lot 254 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$420 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Baden, Grossherzogtum, Friedrich II. 1907-1918. 20 Mark 1914 G, Karlsruhe. Gutes vorzüglich. (grand duchy of Baden, Frederick II, 1907-18, twenty mark of 1914, Karlsruhe mint. Good extremely fine.)"

This is the only twenty mark of the 20th century from Baden. It was struck 1911-14 and is common. Altho Baden was not a major issuer of coins prior to unification, its issues during the Empire (1871-1918) were substantial. The Baden mint at Karlsruhe (mintmark "G") struck minor coins during the Empire and afterward until today.
