Künker sale 294, lot 4023

This specimen was lot 4023 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €330 (about US$445 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, BADEN, Friedrich II. 1907-1918. 20 Mark 1911. Sehr schön-vorzüglich/vorzüglich. (unified gold coinage, grand duchy of Baden, Frederick II, 1907-18, twenty mark of 1911. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This is the only twenty mark of the 20th century from Baden. It was struck 1911-14 and is common. Altho Baden was not a major issuer of coins prior to unification, its issues during the Empire (1871-1918) were substantial. The Baden mint at Karlsruhe (mintmark "G") struck minor coins during the Empire and afterward until today.
