This specimen was lot 4063 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 3200 CHF (about US$4,047 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, Herzogtum Münzstätte Berlin Alfred, 1893-1900. 5 Mark 1895. Kl. Kr. und Reibungssp. im Feld. Vorzüglich aus Polierter Platte. (Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Alfred, 1893-1900, five mark of 1895, Berlin mint, impaired proof.)"
This type is very rare. It is accompanied by a scarce two mark (KM 158).
Recorded mintage: 4,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
