Sincona sale 47, lot 1887
Messerano in 1786, after its absorption by Sardinia

This specimen was lot 1887 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,560 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY, Messerano, Francesco Filiberto Ferrero Fieschi, 1584-1629. 2 Fiorini o. J. Von grösster Seltenheit. Schön-sehr schön. (marquisate of Messerano, Francesco Filiberto Ferrero Fieschi, 1584-1629, undated double florin. Of the highest rarity, Fine-very fine.)"

Messerano is on the Milanese side of the border between Savoy/Sardinia and Milan. The marquis sold his domain to Sardinia in 1767.
