Messerano in 1786, after its absorption by Sardinia

This specimen was lot 655 in Nomisma S.p.a. Auction 66 (Verona, Italy, November 2022) where it did not sell. The lot description noted, "MESSERANO Francesco Filiberto Ferrero Fieschi (1584-1629) Tallero - AG RR. BB." Messerano is on the Milanese side of the border between Savoy/Sardinia and Milan. Francesco Filiberto struck a number of very similar talleros around the turn of the seventeenth century. Some are dated but this one is not. All are rare. The marquis sold his domain to Sardinia in 1767.
