This specimen was lot 208 in CGB sale 54 (Paris, June 2012) where it did not sell. The catalog description noted,

"1791 Bordeaux Edge: lisse aEF/VF Ce sol est frappé sur un flan irrégulier. Exemplaire recouvert d’une jolie patine marron et présentant quelques faiblesses de frappe. Deux rayures en bas à gauche de l’écu de France. : Obverse: LUDOV. XVI. - D. GRATIA. Obverse description : Tête de Louis XVI à gauche, les cheveux noués par un ruban ; au-dessous (Mm). (Louis XVI, par la grâce de Dieu). Reverse legend : (Mg) FRANCIÆ ET - K - NAVARRÆ. REX. 17-91. Reverse: Écu de France couronné. (roi de France et de Navarre). L’atelier de Bordeaux frappa ce type monétaire de 1783 à 1791."

This specimen is a copper sol struck at the Bordeaux mint in 1791. It is common. Its face value was twelve deniers tournois. The type was struck 1777-91 and is known from Bordeaux for 1780, 1783-91. These circulated in France until the 1850's when they were finally called in and melted.

Recorded mintage: 400,000.

Specification: 12.23 g, copper, 28-30 mm diameter, plain edge; this specimen: 13,12 g, 29 mm diameter.
