Revision as of 09:42, 17 September 2024
The first specimen was lot 23035 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Taler, 1780-B. Kremnica Mint. Maria Theresia. PCGS MS-63+ Gold Shield. A bright and lustrous example of this popular type with flashy fields and frosty devices. The edges on the obverse exhibit minimal signs of the adjustment marks, far less than normally encountered from on this type. A highly attractive representative of the issue certain to see spirited bidding from discerning collectors." The second specimen was lot 5977 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €440 (about US$612 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Konv.-Taler 1780, B/SK-PD, Kremnitz. Attraktives Exemplar, vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, convention thaler of 1780, Kremnitz mint. Attractive example, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1777-80 and is fairly common.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, the second specimen 28.02 g.
