Hungary 1782-B X thaler Dav-1168B
This specimen was lot 24053 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Taler, 1782-B. Kremnitz Mint. Joseph II (1780-90). PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. An absolutely stunning example of this type, common enough in circulated grades but SCARCE in this quality. Fully lustrous, the fields are nearly devoid of marks and the adjustment marks that so frequently mar the portrait of the Madonna and Child are here confined to the rims." Hungary in 1782 was firmly under Austrian rule but was not part of the Empire. This type, struck 1781-83, is fairly common.
