Sincona sale 87, lot 2931

This specimen was lot 2931 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$135 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Joseph II. 1765-1790. 1/2 Taler 1782 B, Kremnitz. Fast vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, half thaler of 1782, Kremnitz mint. About extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

The arms obverse/Madonna reverse design is distinctive to Hungary, where it appears on many denominations. This subtype is listed for 1782-89 and is common. A similar design was struck at Vienna (KM 399, mintmark "A").
