Schulman auction 379, lot 595
Schulman 379-595r.jpg

This specimen was lot 595 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN - WILLEM III 1849-1890. 1 Gulden. 1855 Hoofd naar rechts door J. P. Schouberg. Mmt. zwaard, mt. mercuriusstaf., Silver, 10.03 g. Prachtig. Sch. 608. (kingdom of the Netherlands, William III, 1849-90, one gulden of 1855, head right. Privy marks sword and Mercury's staff. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1850-67 in substantial numbers, tho it is scarce in nice condition. No one gulden coins were struck between 1867 and 1892. Curiously, while the half, one and 2½ gulden pieces were 0.945 fine silver, the five, ten and twenty-five cent issues were only .640 fine.

Recorded mintage: 5,133,283.

Specification: 10 g, 0.945 fine silver, .303 troy oz ASW, 28 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 93, Sch-615.
