from Stephen Album sale 43, lot 957

This specimen was lot 957 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George VI, 1936-1947, ½ anna, 1940(c), copper-nickel type, proof restrike, PCGS graded Proof 63." This type was struck in 1940 but never entered circulation. It exists only in proof and later restrikes. A nickel-brass issue was struck 1942-45.

Specification: copper-nickel.
