Stack's Bowers November 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 78061

This specimen was lot 78061 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $45. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/2 Rupee, 1940-(C). Calcutta Mint. George VI. NGC MS-62." This subtype was struck in 1940 at Calcutta and Bombay of debased silver. Proofs exist.

Recorded mintage: 32,898,000 plus 17,811,000 from Bombay (dot mintmark).

Specification: 5.83 g, 0.500 fine silver, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge.
