India 1940(c) anna
This specimen was lot 509 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $514.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA, Colonial. British India. George VI. 1936-1952. Proof Restrike CU-NI Anna. Second head issue. Calcutta mint. Dated 1940. In NGC encapsulation graded PF 64. A bright choice proof with the faintest neon purple and green toning swirling throughout the fields. Purchased January 1967." This one anna was struck at the Calcutta mint as part of a type struck 1940-41. The denomination was introduced in 1906 and struck until the end of the Raj in 1947.
