Sincona sale 76, lot 1031

This specimen was lot 1031 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 16,000 CHF (about US$19,421 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DENMARK. Friedrich III. 1648-1670. Dukat 1668, Kopenhagen. Mit der Signatur GK (Gotfred Krüger, Münzmeister in Kopenhagen, 1664-1680). Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS61. (kingdom of Denmark, Frederick III, 1648-70, ducat of 1668, Copenhagen mint, mintmaster's initials "GK". Extremely rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1667-68 and both dates are rare. This design also appears on a five ducat (Fr-81) and a gold krone (Fr-83) which Friedberg says is reported, not confirmed.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.979 fine gold, this specimen 3.46 g.

Catalog reference: KM 304, Hede 35. Sieg 125. Fr-82.
