This one sol was struck in Philadelphia in 1924 for [[Peru]]. It is distinguished from pieces minted in Lima, which have larger sized letters in the legend. This 0.500 fine silver coin replaced a [[Peru 1916-FG sol|.900 fine silver one sol]] struck in large numbers 1865-1916. This type was issued until 1935, when all silver was removed from the coinage. The examples shown is the 1924/824 variety overdate. The second specimen was lot 73584 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "PERU. Sol, 1923-LIMA. Lima Mint. NGC AU-55. "LIBERTAD" in relief variety. A highlight collectible issue, distinguishable from the other two 1923-dated issues by the raised lettering of "LIBERTAD" on the obverse pedestal and the placement of "LIMA" in the legend on the reverse."
