Peru 1925 sol

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 24630

There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic seated liberty design, introduced in 1864. For 1924-35, the silver fineness was reduced to 0.500, though the same design was used as heretofore. This type was struck 1923-26 at Philadelphia and Lima, all with the Lima mintmark. This specimen was lot 24630 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $720. The catalog description^[1] noted, "PERU. Sol, 1925 Large Letters. NGC MS-64. Tied with one other as finest graded at NGC. Good strike, lustrous and attractive. From the Alex Siegel Collection."

Recorded mintage: 1,004,999, a common date.

Specification: 25 g, 0.500 fine silver.
